About XF

ARK Tarps – The Only Tarps Made Out Of XF Film.

What is XF Film?

Simply put, XF-Film is an extremely strong and high performing material.

It is made under a Swiss patented process using precise and technologically advanced manufacturing technology.

XF Film is a highly versatile material. It is extremely strong yet light weight, flexible yet tougher than any other plastic material of comparable weight and thickness.

The above characteristics are acquired through its unique Swiss patented production process. The process includes the following 3 steps:

Process 1

In the first process, the film is made with conventional blow film, three layer A-B- C coextrusion technology. This film is made with a proprietary blend of 100% virgin polyethylene grade raw material like LLDPE, HMHDPE etc. Additives like UV Inhibitors and film colours are incorporated at this point.

As with Conventional films, the molecular orientation is in the machine direction.

XF Process 1

Process 2A

The roll of film is placed on a special machine and is cut at an angle to create a flat web. The molecular orientation of this web is from 300 -600 from the machine direction of the web. The flat film is rewound into a roll.

XF Process 2

Process 2B

Another roll of film is cut on the special machine to create a film with molecular direction flowing in the other direction.

XF Process 2A

Process 3

Multi layers of the spiral cut films, with molecular orientations flowing in opposite angles, are placed alternately. These are laminated together using relatively low heat and pressure, resulting in a cross directional film web.

XF Process 3

Process 3

Multi layers of the spiral cut films, with molecular orientations flowing in opposite angles, are placed alternately. These are laminated together using relatively low heat and pressure, resulting in a cross directional film web.

XF Film Quality parameters:

The quality difference can be summarised below:

  • Better elongation and stretch memory
  • Lightweight
  • 50% Higher strength
  • Increased durability and abrasion resistance
  • More than twice the stretch allows for a tighter fit
  • Substantially reduced tear propagation. Accidental tears do not expand unless very high force is applied.
  • Can be repaired on site.
  • Engineered strength embedded in ALL directions
  • And most importantly – Impermeable to water.
  • UV protection is built into all layers and lasts for life of the product.
  • Resists all weather conditions and remains flexible in -50 ℃ to 60 ℃.
